According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, it’s estimated that approximately 30% of Vietnam veterans, 12% of Gulf War veterans, 11% of Afghanistan war veterans, and 20% of Iraq war veterans experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Individuals struggling with PTSD are at a greater risk of developing drug and/or alcohol problems, because these substances are often used to avoid bad memories, distract from physical or emotional pain, and induce sleep.
Over time, a reliance on drugs or alcohol can develop into addiction, producing co-occurring disorders among both veterans and active duty military personnel living with PTSD. The brave men and women who risk their lives to defend our nation’s freedom deserve addiction treatment that will give them the freedom to enjoy life to its fullest.

TRICARE Coverage
